European Media and Platform Policy (EuromediApp) - Stakeholders

European Media and Platform Policy (EuromediApp) is a Jean Monnet network dedicated to studying, analysing and discussing benefits and challenges of digital platforms in Europe and world-wide.

By bringing together knowledge and research capacity from all over Europe and beyond, EuromediApp provides space for national and transnational deliberation on how future digital services should and will be governed. Working papers, teaching material, workshops, conferences and dedicated schools for advanced students are our working tools.

EuromediApp operates for three years (2020 – 2023) along three modules:

  1. European political democracy (inclusion and exclusion, diversity and uniformity, trust and distrust);
  2. Quality of European (news) ecology, including journalism, individualised procedures of political information, populism, polarisation and depolarisation, personalisation, scandalisation, information/propaganda/misinformation; and
  3. European governance models of digital media and the internet by media/platform companies and governments, utopian and dystopian views of digital media and democracy.

Global Council To Build Trust in Media and Fight Misinformation - Stakeholders

The Global Council To Build Trust in Media and Fight Misinformation (GC2FM) is a global initiative aiming at facilitating and actioning realistic, practical and workable solutions to the problem of misinformation. The Council will unite and focus on this issue through four key areas based on the core needs identified during the framing process: first, the creation of a repository of resources and initiatives in the fight of misinformation: second, the creation of a network of individuals, organisations and initiatives; third, foster innovation in order to identify workable solutions; forth, stimulate the industry to speak with a unified voice.

The framing committee of the Global Council is composed by: the Ethical Journalism Network, the European Broadcasting Union, the Global Editors Network, the Global Forum for Media Development, the Online News Association, and WAN-IFRA/World Editor’s Forum.

The Council was launched in April 2018.

Union of Publishers in Bulgaria - Stakeholders

Joined by 18 publishing houses producing over 40 printed products, the Union of Publishers in Bulgaria is an independent, non-governmental association united by the principles of defending the freedom of the press, the independence of journalists and the encouragement of their work so that society is objectively informed. The main goals of the Union are: to defend freedom of speech and the independence of the Bulgarian print media; to contribute for the improvement of the quality of Bulgarian press; to upgrade the public prestige of print media; to establish relations of fair competition among its members; to help in solving economic issues of common interest of the newspaper publishers; to mantain mutual trust among its members.

Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) - Stakeholders

The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) is a think-tank, alternative university and an experimental laboratory set up to train a new generation of reporters in the tools of investigative, in-depth, and long-form journalism across all media. Registered as a charity, it robustly defends investigative journalists and those who work with them.

School of Communication and Media (SKAMBA) - Stakeholders

The School of Communication and Media, n.o. (SKAMBA) is a research establishment founded in Slovakia in 2008. SKAMBA´s mission is to provide high quality in-depth research on issues related to communication and media, as well as courses, seminars and lectures mainly related to the dissemination of research results.
It focuses particularly on the areas of mass media communication and the functions and interactions of the media in a liberal democracy.

It closely cooperates with the Slovak Section of the Association of European Journalists and took place to research projects such as MEDIADEM and ANTICORRP .

King’s College London’s Centre for the Study of Media, Communication and Power - Stakeholders

Based in the Policy Institute at King’s College London, the King’s College London’s Centre for the Study of Media, Communication and Power  explores how news provision, political communication, public discourse, civic engagement and media power are changing in the digital age. It does this through rigorous empirical research, and communication of the findings of this research to inform relevant academic and public policy debates and civic society responses, in order to help promote diversity, fairness, transparency and accountability in media and communication.

The Centre has developed from the foundations of the Media Standards Trust, an independent think tank that has been conducting research on issues of media and public policy since 2006, and has been based at the Policy Institute at King’s since September 2013.

The Centre is advised by a range of senior figures from the media and civil society. 

Initiative for Freedom of Expression - Stakeholders

Initiative for Freedom of Expression is a Turkey-based association and movement of civil disobedience, working on the right to freedom of expression. It is a member of the global network IFEX

Since 2000, it publishes annual reports on the situation of freedom of expression in Turkey and distributes them among the main Non-Governmental Organizations, as well as to the media institutions. Every week, the Initiative publishes a Weekly Bulletin  in Turkish and in English. Since 1997, it organizes biennial "Gatherings for Freedom of Expression" in Istanbul. Together with other stakeholders, it created the ÇTL database (Current Trial Library), recording thought crime cases. It opened a virtual and interactive Museum of the Crimes of Thought

International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) - Stakeholders

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) was established as an NGO in 1968 in Washington DC. The official mission of the NGO is to sustain individuals and institutions in order to enable a vibrant society. One of its seven areas of intervention is media development. Every year, IREX issues the Media Sustainability Index (MSI), with funding from USAID, providing in-depth analyses of the conditions for independent media in 80 countries across the world.

UNESCO - Stakeholders

UNESCO is the UN specialized agency with the mandate to promote "the free flow of ideas by word and image", and to nurture freedom of expression, media development, and access to information. It provides governments with technical advice on legal, regulatory, policy and other critical issues, and educates and builds capacities of journalists, media professionals and institutions.

UNESCO has a long-standing experience of promoting freedom of expression and media development in transitional countries, particularly in South East Europe and Turkey. In this respect, UNESCO contributed to the Guidelines for EU support to media freedom and integrity in enlargement countries 2014-2020.

From 2009 until 2011, UNESCO implemented the project "Alignment to International Standards in the Media Sector of South East European countries". From 2013 to 2015, a second project was implemented under the title "Media Accountability in South East Europe". In January 2016, the project "Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey " was launched, with the aim of supporting media accountability mechanisms, internal governance of media entities and media and information literacy in EU candidate and potential candidate countries with financial support of the European Commission, DG Near.
